Things to Do in Our Backyard

The area surrounding The Tamarack Lodge offers year round activities. From skiing, snowboarding, fishing, boating, hiking, off- roading, swimming, wildflower gazing, horseback riding, snowmobiling, the region surrounding the lodge offers it all.

SKIING & SNOWBOARDING
China Peak Mountain Resort is right up the highway. Naturally they offer excellent skiing and snowboarding. But, they have fantastic summer activities as well, with a Mountain Bike Trail system and Concerts for visitors to enjoy.

SNOWMOBILING
Well groomed trails are found all along Highway 168 from around Shaver Lake to Huntington Lake and even far into the Kaiser Wilderness.

OFF ROADING
Directly across the street from the lodge there is an off roading, cross country skiing, and snow mobile trail.
There are several others that are very exciting as well. They range from easy to moderate with the Dusy-Ershim Trail being the most difficult.

HORSE BACK RIDING
There are two different stables nearby that have trained guides to take you on a leisurely ride. Shaver Stables 800-434-Ride and D & F Stables 559-893-3220

HIKING
There are many hiking trails near the lodge. Numerous others are to be found in the Kaiser and Dinkey Lakes Wilderness that surround our facility. Some are easy and others very demanding.

WILDFLOWER GAZING
There are gorgeous wildflowers in the forest. In the springtime the Dogwoods bloom and the unusual red snow flower pops up.

PHOTOGRAPHY

Bring your camera to capture photos of friends, family, flowers, creatures and wonders of the great outdoors.

BOATING
Boat rentals are available at Huntington Lake from China Peak Landing 559-893-3234 and Huntington Lake Resort 559-893-6750. At Shaver Lake boats are offered at, Shaver Lake Water Sports 559-841-8222 , Sierra Marina 559-841-3324 and Shaver Lake Marina 559-841-5331.

FISHING
Shaver and Huntington Lakes offer excellent trout fishing. The backcountry Edison, Florence, Courtright and Wishon Lakes are also exceptional.

The San Joaquin River and Dinkey Creek are popular as well. Whether you like floating in a tube, fishing from shore or out in a boat, hungry trout await you.

MINERAL BATH
When you are in the Mono Hot Springs region, stop in and try the mineral baths and sign up for a massage. They also have a small store and nice restaurant.

NATURAL HOT SPRINGS
Talk the family and friends to enjoy a nice relaxing soak in one of the natural hot springs in the Kaiser Wilderness on the way to Mono Hot Springs or Edison Lake.

WATER SPORTS
Shaver and Huntington Lakes are perfect waterways for a good old fashioned day on the lake. Pack up your ice chest, load up the kids and find one of the local beaches at either lake.

We recommend Lakeshore Beach. When continuing up the highway you will pass China Peak Ski Resort and a few miles down the road will be the little town of Lakeshore.

Directly across from the general store there is a left hand turn that will take you down to the lake. There is a great roped in swim area, dock and restrooms.
